SE – Transaction Set Trailer

SE01-  Number of Included Segments

To indicate the end of the transaction set and provide the count of the transmitted segments (including the beginning (ST) and ending (SE) segments)

Example 1:
1. Download our first example here
2. This example contains only one claim where Patient is the same as the insurer (Self).
3. As per the example, the value for this SEO1 is 32 as shown here.



4. Now let us see how we arrived value 32.
5. Take a copy of the file EDI_837_5010_Usecase1 contains in the downloaded zip.
6. Open the file in Notepad++ and Replace the string ~ with \n (Choose Extended Search mode in Notepad++) as shown here.


7. Now there are 36 lines in the File
8. Remove the first line ISA and also in the bottom , remove SE, GE and IEA Lines.
9. Now it should show 32 lines. That’s how we arrived the value 32 for this SE01

Example 2:

1. Download our Second example here
2. This example contains only two claims.
3. As per the example, the value for this SEO1 is 57  as shown here.



4. Now let us see how we arrived value 57.
5. Take a copy of the file EDI_837_5010_Usecase2 contains in the downloaded zip.
6. Open the file in Notepad++ and Replace the string ~ with \n (Choose Extended Search mode in Notepad++) as shown here.


7. Now there are 61 lines in the File
8. Remove the first line ISA and also in the bottom , remove SE, GE and IEA Lines.
9. Now it should show 57 lines. That’s how we arrived the value 57 for this SE01

If the value in SE01 is incorrect, the checking process ends and you will receive the error message:
